before the 70s
The 70s were a time of "luminus" kitchen ceilings down at seven feet with acrylic lenses covering buzzing fluorescent striplights. Decades later, the acrylic is yellow, brittle and the fluorescents are burning energy and nerves with their oppressive noise and flicker.
